Description
Arabic for Hospitals is a foundation course that teaches Arabic within social and medical contexts. This course introduces basic grammar and pronunciation/ recognition of Arabic sounds.
Learning Outcomes:
- Use common regional greetings
- Introduce yourself: give information on occupation, nationality and country of origin, family, such as “My name is Lara. I am a nurse at ABC Hospital. I am from England. I am married, etc.”
- Ask other to provide personal information, such as, “where are you from? What do you do? Where do you live? Are you married? how many children do you have? etc.”
- Ask about health-related information, such as “Do you have a headache / pain in; Do you have a health card / insurance, Do you have an appointment with the doctor?”
- Ask about the state of being, such as “Are you tired? Are you feeling ok? Are you thirsty?”
- Name the different parts of the body, “your head, teeth, mouth, arm, chest, abdomen, foot etc.”
- Give instructions / make polite commands, such as, “please have a seat; please rest, you need to sleep now. You should take the medicine, etc.”
- Describe actions using verbs, such as “Do you want to drink water? Would you like to eat now? Don’t you want to sleep? Do you want to talk to the doctor?”
- Offer basic food and drink items
